![]() There have been many things said of Lot. He has been characterized once too often as some kind of lukewarm believer that God had pity on or as the wayward relative who picked the wrong place to live in but in God's mercy he "barely" escaped God's judgment and was only spared because he was Abraham's nephew. Nothing could be further from the truth! LOT WAS A RIGHTEOUS MAN!!! "......for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance but the Lord looketh on the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7 The Lord Himself came down to deliver Lot. In Genesis 18, we read that the Lord came with His angels and visited Abraham on His way to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. In chapter 19:1-3 we have insight into Lot's fruit: 1. Lot recognized his day of visitation and was at the gate of the city when the angels entered - a sign of being led by the Spirit. 2. Lot "bowed himself with his face toward the ground", a sign of great humility. This act was obviously done in open display to all other people who would have been at the city's entrance. He was not ashamed at the Lord's appearing. 3. He offered his house to the angels of God and to feed them and wash their feet. This is a testimony that Lot had a Godly house and had nothing to hide. How many Christians today, if the Lord and His angels appeared would be able to escourt them to their house without first going ahead of them and cleaning out their VCR tapes, books, cigarettes, magazines, alcohol, etc.? 4. Even in the face of great danger to himself and his family, Lot rebuked the men of Sodom at his door: And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Genesis 19:7 His rebuke so angered the men of Sodom that they would have greatly injured or killed him (verse 9), except for the intervention of the angels. 5. Here is Peter's recording of how God saw Lot, written by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost: And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemed them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should LIVE UNGODLY; And delivered JUST Lot, VEXED WITH THE FILTHY CONVERSATION OF THE WICKED: (For that RIGHTEOUS man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, VEXED HIS RIGHTEOUS SOUL FROM DAY TO DAY WITH THEIR {not HIS but THEIR} UNLAWFUL DEEDS;) THE LORD KNOWETH HOW TO DELIVER THE GODLY (Philadelphian) out of temptations and to reserve the unjust (Laodicean) unto the day of judgment to be punished: 2 Peter 2:6-9 I believe that the scriptures show that Lot was used of God as an example of His Saving Power, even in an ungodly place. You CANNOT claim to be a BLOOD WASHED, BORN AGAIN BELIEVER and live an ungodly lifestyle.
