Once Saved Always Saved - A Lie Of The Devil

The big lie from the devil, once saved always saved, began in the Garden of Eden. The devil brought this lie to Eve and then Eve brought it to Adam.

Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

Genesis 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Adam was made perfect by God. Adam had fellowship with God in the Garden from the very beginning. That fellowship, as we can see above, depended on Adam's obedience to the Word of God. As long as Adam obeyed God and did not sin by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he would live. He would live eternally is the conclusion as he was already living physically. We can read further and see that is true because after Adam and Eve sinned, by disobeying God, they continued to live physically.

Gensis 2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

Genesis 2:22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Genesis 2:25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

We can see today that this is the state of the Christian when we are born again. We walk in the light of the Word of God. We walk naked and open before Him and we are not ashamed. We can see this today in the Word of God:

1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Here is the formula for the new birth. Just like in the Garden of Eden, there is a part that God has done:

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Ephesians 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

He gave us His Son as a free Gift:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We must, of our own free will, receive this Gift. This requires us to believe what we hear:

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

What is faith?:

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

We see that faith IS! Faith is the substance of things hoped for...

Faith is active. Faith is present and faith is forward looking and it is a walk:

2Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

But Adam and Eve failed in their obedience to God, to His Word to them. We know that Eve, then Adam, believed that lie. They listened to the devil tell them that they were saved and if they ate of that tree they would still be saved:

Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Genesis 3:2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

Genesis 3:3 But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

They believed the lie of the devil, once saved always saved:

They disobeyed God. They disobeyed His Word and they died spiritually.

When we sin by disobeying God, we die spiritually. It may happen at once if we sin greatly or it may happen over time. Only God knows. He keeps records, according to the Bible. That is exactly what the Bible teaches. That is exactly what the New Testament teaches:

Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Genesis 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

They hid themselves from the presence of the Lord. Today we put down our Bibles, quiting reading them, quit confessing our faith in Jesus and His Word and go back out into the world.

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Hebrews 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

The devil tells us the same lies today and sometimes we listen to him and disobey God and His Holy Word. Sometimes we disobey God by our own free will. This is sin. It puts us out of fellowship with God, just as it did Adam and Eve. The Word of God tells us what we must do when we sin:

1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

This is our only hope. The Word of God is true and gives us directions in our walk with God.

Jesus said:

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed;

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Faith is forward looking (the substance of things hoped for) and it is action by obedience. We must continue in God's Word until the day we die or are taken in the Rapture.

Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether [they be] things in earth, or things in heaven.

Colossians 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

Colossians 1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

Colossians 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

So we can see, in this study, from the very beginning of creation, God placed man in the Garden and on the earth. He came down to fellowship and did so until Adam disobeyed Him. This brought a separation between God and Adam (man). God had already known from before the beginning of the world that this would happen and made a way for man to be rejoined to Himself.

He sent His Son, Jesus, to die in our place, at Calvary. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice that God required as the Atonement for our sins.

Now we can receive this free Gift, Jesus, into our hearts and obey Him and His Word, just like He expected of Adam and Eve.

Jesus is our High Priest:

Hebrews 7:24 But this [man], because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

Hebrews 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

If you are a child of God and are presently out of fellowship with Him, you are walking in darkness. You are walking in sin and you know it. Jesus is waiting for you to come back home, just like the prodical son. You must confess your sins, according to 1 John 1:9 (it doesn't say one by one or collectively-you know what you need to confess). Jesus will take you back. He will cleanse you from all unrighteousness and present you without fault before the Father. But you must confess your sins and you must open your Bible and read it and follow Him by obeying His Word.

Repent of your sins and call upon Him today. Then live for Him daily. Jesus said:

Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

Luke 12:9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

Once saved always saved?

What did Paul say about that?:

1Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Again, the Bible is clear. That same devil is going around seeking whom he may devour. How do we live?:

Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

We still overcome the devil by:

1. ...the blood of the Lamb (Jesus)...
2. ..AND by the word of their testimony (living for and confessing the Word of God)....
3. ...and they loved not their lives unto the death. (like Abraham confessed, we are strangers and pilgrims, looking for a city whose Builder and Maker is God - Hebrews 11:13)
